LUCAN UNITED FC
The first Lucan team was started in the 50s and was called Spa Rovers. This was replaced in the 60s by Lucan Celtic and Dodsboro. These two teams decided to merge in 1968 and eventually became Lucan United in 1969.

The
founding members in 1969 were Dermot Kavanagh, John Harris, Joe Kyle, Ann
Euiff, Kevin Murphy and Lorcan Murphy later to be joined by John Dobbs. Lucan

The club has had many great players over the years and some have gone on to represent their country at different age levels. The senior section of the club was managed by Christy Halpin Terry Shaughnessy and Jack Harte, during early years followed by Richard and Gerry Delaney. All these guys have put a lot of energy and hard work into the development of the club during this time. John Dobbs Christy Moran and Mick Nolan worked tirelessly over the years building up the schoolboy section of the club to have representation at all age groups during 80s and early 90s.

The last 15 years has seen ladies football in the club, having several successes over the years including two of the members representing their country in the European Championship. (Orla Rankin and Anne Maria McGoldrick). Lucan was blossoming during these years with teams at every age group.
The impact after several of these guys retired from the club left a massive gap; this was filled by several people but particularly in the later years during a lean spell for the club in the late 90s by Mark Richmond, Tony Blount, Pauline Blount, Christy Moran and Mick Nolan. It was a credit to them they kept the club afloat during a difficult time.
In 1999 Lucan United merged with Intel F.C, the decision to merge was taken due to the fact most of Intel players were from Lucan. This increased the amount of teams that Lucan United had playing and gave them a representation back in the Leinster Senior League, which they had not had in years.
This merger was probably more important of the field than on as it brought together two separate small committees, which enhanced the organization of the now just Lucan United. This plus the return of previous members and the addition of local residences gave us a very strong committee which have been able to build the facility that we now occupy.
In 2002 Lucan had progressed to 6 teams and was now growing at a rate of 25% a year. The facilities that the club had were simply not acceptable if they wanted to continue to expand the school boy section of the club. With no toilets, showers, or heat in the winter and only the space for two teams to change in, it was imperative that the facilities were improved.
Through the Sports Capital Program, and an aggressive fund raising campaign we have been able to build this facility costing in total 750K. Fundraising was made possible due to receiving a grant of 40k from the South Dublin County Council single interest grant scheme 380k from the Sports Capital Program and a major helping hand from the local Credit Union on several occasions.
None of this would have been possible without the help of Mary Harney TD & Derek Keating Councillor and the co operation of South Dublin County Council in particular the Parks Department Michael Hannon.
Numerous other people have given their support along the way both financially and by giving their time. Special mention to Paddy Monaghan, Peter Brady and Christy Byrne for their support of our lotto over the years The club in 2005 had grown to 12 school boy teams and 5 senior teams. The club now still maintained a growth rate of 25% adding new school boy teams every year.
With the addition of fully qualified coaches and a director of coaching we have improved on and off the pitch in the last few years. We now provide good facilities and a structured approach to school boy football which allows development both technically and socially. This has had a positive impact on the club league standing in the school boy section with most of our A teams now starting to make their way into the top leagues.
We currently have 18 teams with 10 of those in the DDSL representing the club at Sat 7C1, Sat 8B1, Sat 9G, Sat 9E, Sat 7C, Sat 10A1, Sat 11B, Sun 9A, Sun 7E, Sun 8C and Sun 9C. We also have a team in the South Dublin league under 11, Leister Senior league Saturday Premier, Sunday Major1 and UCL Premier. The girls are represented also at the 8 age group, two under 12 teams and a senior girl team.
The under 11B won their league for the 2007-2008 season and narrowly missed out in the Pasley cup final to Wayside Celtic. The Under 9G and Under 8B1 also took the title this year and their was promotion for the under 10A1 and the Major 1 Sunday senior side.

The next big challenges for the club are to:
1. Continue to work with SDDC to build an all-weather pitch for training and underage matches.
2. To continue to grow to 22 school boy teams and then just maintain this figure going forward providing quality to our members.
3. To make fully use of the new full size all-weather pitches being supplied to the club by the FAI and South Dublin County Council
4. To introduce more girls team to the club hopefully up to 8 teams by 2010.

Lucan United welcome all new members to the club and our doors are always open for new members in the Men, Ladies, Boys and Girls section of the club.
